Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ (en français)
Where do the workshops take place?
Different types of workshops will take place in different locations. For the digital photo workshops, we’ll most often meet at a location within Paris where we can explore a specific neighbourhood. For traditional photo workshops (cyanotype and pinhole) will take place in the Atelier Atlantis studios in Gentilly while students wishing to take a class on Photoshop or Lightroom will likely take place at a location of their choice (home apartment or office).
How do I get to the Atelier Atlantis studios?
Our main studio space is located in Gentilly on the Southern border with Paris. The studio is easily accessible by RER line B on the first stop outside Paris (arret: Gentilly), buses (57, 125 and 184 stop within two minutes’ walk of studio), tram 3 stops at Stade Charléty (10 minute walk) and car access is simple from the Gentilly exit off the Péripherique.
How much do the workshops cost?
This depends on the length and materials used in class. The price generally ranges from 105 for three hour workshops to 350 euros for multi-session classes.
What are the various subjects that you cover in classes and workshops?
Currently, we are concentrating our energies on offering photography workshops. The next step is likely to be in printmaking if there is sufficient interest (be sure to contact us if this is something you’d be interested in!). Our photography workshops are generally divided between digital and analog processes as well as learning various graphics software often used in tandem with photography (Photoshop and Lightroom). We offer digital classes for beginning through advanced students covering a wide range of topics. The traditional classes cover such topics as pinhole photography, black and white photography as well as numerous older photographic processes (including cyanotype, gum bichromate, van dyke brown, salt prints and others).
What experience level should students have before taking classes?
Workshops and classes are available for all levels, beginning through advanced. Michael has been working with photography for more than twenty years and has experimented with many traditional approaches as well as much of the most recent advances in digital photography.
What size will the classes be?
We are interested in keeping class sizes small to allow each student to get the best from the experience. Our maximum is four students but we may sometimes run workshops with just two students which allows everyone to have plenty of interaction with Michael. There is also the option of private classes.
Are meals included in workshops?
This is on a case-by-case basis and each workshop will give specific information concerning meals. Most of our workshops are currently three and four hours in length and will not include a meal.
