Photo Workshops (version française)

Digital Photo Workshops

Traditional Photo Workshops

Come discover the techniques Michael McCarthy used for his recent exhibition at the Galerie Duboys (Paris)! Michael is proposing discovery workshops (accessible to all levels of photo experience) the techniques of pinhole and cyanotype photography. These are two fun and easy to learn techniques that don't require expensive equipment and therefore students will leave the workshops having learned the fundamentals necessary to continue working on their own. Michael has been teaching photography classes and workshops to students of all levels for more than twenty years. Classes are kept small (no more than 6 students). The workshops last between three and four hours allowing each participant the time to develop a sound understanding of the fundamentals of the different techniques. At the end of each workshop students will have created a number of their own finished negatives and/or positve images that they will take home with them.

Pinhole Photography Workshop

Paros Sténopé

The concept of Pinhole Photography was understood as long ago as Aristotle in Ancient Greece but it wasn't until the Renaissance that the first pinhole cameras were put into practice. It took another three hundred years before these early cameras were able to be used to capture a permanent image. In this workshop we'll be using these earliest discoveries to make our own photographs! And you'll see that it isn't complicated and the resulting images are remarkably beautiful--even with such primitive equipment! Michael will guide student through all the necessary steps for building their own cameras, offering suggestions about how to determine the necessary times to make our exposures to create our "negative" images and then different methods we can use to transform these into the "positives" which will resemble the scenes we photographed (although often in surprising and sometimes magical ways). This workshop is accessible to those with all levels of photographic experience. Students will leave with all the knowledge necessary to continue working on their own.

Price: 95 € per person (reduction if you come with a friend or if you sign up for both pinhole and cyanotype workshops)
Upcoming Dates : Saturday, June 7th (10h-13h), or Tuesday, June 17th (10h-13h) and other dates to follow.

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photo processes, invented in 1842. Each image is unique and can have a very painterly feel or a more precise and detailed quality. In the course of three or four hours, students will learn all the basics necessary to continue working on their own at home without needing to make expensive investments in equipment or chemistry.

Price: 95 € per person (reduction if you come with a friend or if you sign up for both the pinhole and cyanotype workshops)
